Introduction

Cambridge International School started under the name of Flower Garden Nursery in the year 2000 with only 5 student and two teachers. From there on with dedicate leadership and single minded focus on education, today the school has grown to a full fledged international school.

Launching the school in a small building, Mr. Muthusamy (the Chairman), slowly developed the school with great acumen along with the first Principal Mrs. Pamini Vetrichelvan and the first teacher Ms. Ganga DeAlwis. Over the years the school acquired a play ground for sports and opened a computer laboratory. With the passage of time, a science laboratory and a library were also introduced to the school.

Today the school has a strength of about 700 students and above 70 teachers along with other several minor and administrative staff. The school is divided into Pre-Primary & Nursery, Primary and Secondary sections. It offers both National and British curriculum options to its students. The school has committed itself to provide the highest level of education available in the country to its students.

In order to provide an avenue for the all around development of the student, the school has embarked on a providing the students with extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. The School now boasts a state of the art basketball court, volleyball court and a clay tennis court. It conducts two Annual Sports Meet, one for the regular school from Grade 1 to Grade 10 and another for the tiny tots of nursery to UKG. It also participates in inter-international school sports events. Additionally, the school conducts an Annual Concert where the students can display their hidden talents in dance and drama. It also conducts an Annual Prize Giving Day to award the best performing students and encourage the students to perform well in their studies. During the ceremony the school also awards its outstanding teachers.

One of the important aspects of the school is to ensure that international level of education is provided at affordable costs to families in the neighborhood. As such the school is building a new state-of-the-art building to accommodate the educational needs of the students. The new building will have 42 spacious classrooms. It will also have a second computer lab with over 100 computers. It will also have 5 high-tech classroom that will allow for experiential learning for the first time in Sri Lanka. The school is negotiating with an Indian Supplier to acquire the equipment to provide the students with a 3D experience of the subjects and topics they are learning. Further, the new building will also have a modern auditorium where all functions will be held. This auditorium will have a ground level and balcony seats. Finally, the new building will also have a fully-equipped gymnasium.

The school expects the new infrastructure development to be completed by the end of this year. The current situation in the school is that there is a shortage of classroom to accommodate the new students that are coming in. Once it is completed the school expects its strength to go up to 1,500 students.

The board of directors of the school consists of well experienced businessmen and well educated individuals in the field of Engineering, Medicine and Accountancy. It is their motto to ensure that every student that is enrolled in this school becomes valuable citizens of this country tomorrow. The school takes its responsibility to educate the students very seriously. It believes that no student should be left behind by the school.
